Course Details
Level 5 masonry repair at Corsehill Gardens: prepare a stone wall for lime mortar pointing; apply lime mortar pointing; half-brick walling; gravel paths, slabs and paved footpaths; real craft project in the walled garden. Pre-apprenticeship Level 5: half brick walling; cavity walling; block walling; construction drawings; efficient work techniques; health and safety; basic ICT. Pre-apprenticeship SCQF4: build a straight brick wall, lightweight block wall, corners with half brick returns, cavity walls. Introduction course: mix and lay concrete, drainage, brickwork, block paving, reinstatement of paths and paving, levelling and setting out, small tools. SVQ SCQF 6 work-based award covering workplace H&S, working relationships, setting out and erecting complex masonry structures.
Duration
36 weeks full-time (Bricklaying and Masonry Repair @ SCQF5; Pre-Apprenticeship Level 5, per course pages). Short full-time, 18 weeks (Pre-Apprenticeship SCQF4; Introduction to Bricklaying and General Construction Skills).
Entry Requirements
Bricklaying and Masonry Repair: no formal qualifications or experience; genuine interest in construction, specifically masonry repair; may be invited to interview. Pre-Apprenticeship Level 5: a Level 4 qualification in Bricklaying or relevant trade experience; interview and short aptitude test. Pre-Apprenticeship SCQF4: no formal qualifications or experience; real interest in construction and bricklaying; interview and aptitude test.
