Course Details
Construction Foundations Level 1: basic bricklaying skills, safe working practices, measuring and calculating quantities, communication; Level 1 Award/Certificate in Construction Skills (Bricklaying). Level 2 Diploma: live projects, site visits, industry talks; units include H&S, principles of building construction, solid walling and piers, interpreting working drawings, cavity walling. Apprenticeship: lay bricks, blocks and other components; construct and repair walls, foundations, partitions, arches, chimney stacks; attend college one day a week at North Harbour.
Duration
Level 1 Construction Foundations: 1 year. Level 1 Diploma in Brickwork: 1 year. Level 2 Diploma: 1 year (attendance two to three days a week, typically 9am-4.30pm). Apprenticeship: 24 months, one day a week.
Entry Requirements
Construction Foundations: a minimum of 3 GCSEs at grade 1 or above, including maths and English (E3 may be considered but is dependent on subject specialism). Level 2 Diploma: a minimum of five GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including maths and English; those with prior industry experience will also be considered. Apprenticeship: maths and English at grade 2 or above, or Functional Skills Level 1.
