Course Details
MA: Year 1 block release totalling 19 weeks in college; Year 2 totalling 11 weeks; Year 3 one week refresher; Year 4 one week skills test. At college SQA PDA in Bricklaying SCQF 6; in the workplace SQA SVQ in Bricklaying (Construction) SCQF 6. NPA Trowel Trades: half brick walling; one brick walling; fundamentals of cavity walling; block walling; simple arch construction; simple decorative brickwork; setting-out; levelling; health & safety; core skills. Construction Futures: introduction to brickwork including constructing a wall plus joinery, painting & decorating and groundworks.
Duration
MA: 4 year block release. NPA Trowel Trades: one year full time, 2.5 days per week (Dunfermline & Glenrothes Campus).
Entry Requirements
MA: no mandatory qualification requirements prior to commencing; must be employed in a bricklaying role. Fairing well in Standard Grades, Nat 4s, Nat 5s and Highers would improve prospects, as would prior vocational work experience.
